Chapter 5
Sunday flew by all too quickly. They woke up around seven and started the morning with breakfast, including more fresh-squeezed orange juice, the blueberry minimuffins Carter had bought at Elegante the day before, sausage links, eggs over easy, and coffee. Wolf again did the dishes. They each took a second cup of coffee into the living room and read the Sunday paper while sipping. Then Wolf suggested they try their hands at archery.
Carter, who’d had lots of practice, was a fairly skilled archer. Wolf, who was totally out of practice, had trouble hitting the target at all, let alone hitting the bull’s-eye. He was a good sport about his ineptitude, and he and Carter laughed long and loud at his mistakes, but finally he gave up and said, “I don’t think archery is my sport.”
They went back inside, and Carter noticed a distinct protrusion in Wolf’s pants. He was not surprised when Wolf started kissing and nuzzling him, stroking his arm, and lightly raking his nails along the back of Carter’s neck. Soon they were back upstairs in the bedroom, undressed once again, and ravenously making love to each other. Afterward they snuggled together, and Carter fell asleep in Wolf’s arms for a short nap.
When they awoke, it was ten thirty. The air show was due to start at noon. “Lunch before or after?” Carter asked.
“I’m still full from breakfast!”
“Well, that settles that, then. I thought I would’ve worked it off you between the sheets.”
“That was a big breakfast.”
“Let’s do some more beach walking, then. It’s a lovely day for it, and we’re going to be at the beach anyhow, watching the air show.”
So they took off for the beach, parked near Surfspray Aero, and walked up and down the shoreline for a bit. Promptly at noon the first stunt pilot took to the air, engaging in aerobatics to the delight of the crowd. A local radio station, broadcasting from the Surfspray Aero facility, announced who was piloting the plane and what he was doing. Carter and Wolf were listening on their radios. When the fourth plane started doing rolls, the announcer proclaimed a novelty. A woman pilot was at the controls. It was a first for Surfspray, and most of the crowd cheered extravagantly.
Carter and Wolf stood watching the entire show with necks craned, their arms around each other, and their headphones on as they listened to the broadcast narration. At one point they spotted Todd, from the dating service, standing there lustily cheering on his boyfriend, Colin, who was one of the stunt pilots in the show. In a particularly risky maneuver, Colin dived straight down toward the ocean, pulling up at the last possible moment. Carter couldn’t help notice how white Todd’s face was as he watched. I’m glad Wolf isn’t into any risky hobbies like that.
When the show was over, they headed back to Carter’s car. Tick Tick Tacos, where they had agreed to have lunch, was just a little way up the beach, but they’d done enough walking already and didn’t feel like doing any more.
